LMSW, PSYCHOTHERAPIST

Meghan Stanley

I specialize in working with people facing a variety of struggles including eating disorders, anxiety, depression, trauma, and other co-occurring disorders. I help patients figure out what’s getting in the way of their healing process, as we work to overcome obstacles, and practice self-compassion.

A message from Meghan

First and foremost, it takes courage to put your mental health first so, welcome!

I provide individual, group, couples, and family therapy to those struggling with eating and comorbid disorders, as well as work with people to challenge their eating disorders and other ways you’ve coped using behaviors you'd like to work on, in a safe and inclusive environment.

This is the most courageous thing you’ll do. The fact that you’ve committed to seeking out treatment is the biggest step. Taking this step can be scary and frustrating. Anger is a normal part of the process. I want to meet you where you are. There is no judgment in this space. We are going to set goals together. You are always in the driver's seat and I am here to give suggestions. I’m funny (or at least I think I am…), but I will always be honest with you. Sometimes, that means we have hard conversations - and that is ok. I will call you out, in a gentle way, and I take things step by step, because being overwhelmed is part of day to day life. I value the importance of expressing feelings without solutions or resolution.

Change is scary, but it is also human. It’s actually very normal. I am here to navigate this change space with you. I believe it is valuable to include families in this process. There is nothing more important than communication, and being vulnerable.

I live in Manhattan with my partner and our plants. When I'm not working with my clients you can find me on the couch watching reruns of New Girl and Schitt's Creek. My favorite way to decompress is getting out of the city and going upstate for hikes and exploring different towns.

  • I work from a person-centered lens and my goal is to provide support and validation to all. People struggling with mental health are more than their diagnosis, and treatment empowers you to believe in your own recovery. You are the expert on you and I am here to help provide you the tools and guidance to be the best you.

Human connection is important, and everyone can connect on some level. Realizing my own need for therapy in the past helped me to understand it is ok to be scared. It is ok to want to be the best, be anxious, be excited, and be scared all at the same time.

Be patient with yourself. It’s ok not to know things. You will grow so much from your own experience, and therapy can help with that. You will become more confident. Trust the journey. Ask questions. Be vulnerable with people that you trust. Be yourself. I say again - Trust the process, because it works.
