FAQS

  • Where is your office located?

Our NYC office is located in Chelsea.

  • Are you seeing people in person?

It depends on the therapist you work with. Some of our therapists are working a hybrid of in-person and virtual sessions, while others are fully virtual. Just ask, and we will let you know!

  • Who do you work with?

We work with individuals of all genders, ages 16 year old and up.

  • What is the first step to begin working with you?

You can reach out to us on our website Contact Form or email Pam directly at pamela@pamelapolizzi.com to set up a free 15 minute consultation phone call.

  • How long are therapy sessions?

Psychotherapy sessions (individual, couples and family) are 45 minutes. Groups are usually 75 minutes long. We offer a free 15 minute consultation phone call for all potential new patients.

  • How long will I be in therapy?

People think if they come more often to therapy that means they are “sicker.” Coming to therapy more often can actually be a sign of one’s emotional health and their ability to tolerate more. Coming more often than weekly can become even more beneficial and effective in creating inner relief.

We see patients at a bare minimum, weekly. We encourage a higher frequency of weekly sessions, because this is what assists in building the therapeutic alliance, deepens your understanding of yourself, and actually creates more containment for people who are easily dysregulated by intolerable emotions and intrusive thoughts. You’re trying to learn how to exist in the world in a different way, and that takes time to practice. We want to honor that.

We do not pretend you will feel, and be “better” in 6 to 8 weeks… this isn’t the diet industry; we don’t make false promises. We are realistic, and pragmatic professionals, who know that healing the whole person takes time. How long you decide to work with us is up to you. We do believe that longer treatments produce the best outcomes for the individuals we have worked with.

  • How much do you charge?

See our About Us page for specific therapist fees for psychotherapy sessions.

  • Do you take insurance?

Some of our therapists in the practice have openings to see patients who have Blue Cross Blue Shield. See our About Us page for specific therapist fees & who takes in insurance for psychotherapy sessions.

We do ask that you call your insurance, the member services number on the back of your card, before the initial intake session to verify your insurance benefits cover mental health treatment.

If you need any additional information from us, please email Pam directly at pamela@pamelapolizzi.com.

  • What if you don’t take my insurance?

That’s okay! We can still work together!

Similar to most therapists in New York City, we do not participate as “in-network” providers for most insurance plans. We will supply you with a monthly receipt of payment for services. You can submit this document to your insurance company for reimbursement, we do not do this on your behalf. Please note that not all insurance companies reimburse for out-of-network providers.

BELOW ARE QUESTIONS TO ASK YOUR INSURANCE PROVIDER:
(Call the member services number on the back of your insurance card)

-Do I have out of network mental health benefits?
-If so, is an LCSW covered?
-What is my out-of -network deductible and has it been met?
-How many sessions per calendar year does my plan cover?
-How much will I be reimbursed for out-of-network providers? (This is usually a percentage i.e. 80/20)
-How can I submit my monthly receipt? (Most insurances now offer simple submission of receipts through an online portal).
-If you need any information from us, please email Pam directly at pamela@pamelapolizzi.com.

  • When can I expect to be charged for my therapy sessions?

Payments for therapy sessions are charged at the time the service is provided, so you can expect your credit card on file to be charged by the end of the day when you had your therapy session. You will then receive an invoice for the session.

If you are using out-of-nework benefits for therapy, a receipt of payment for all the month’s services will be emailed to you at the end of each month to submit to your insurance company.

  • What’s your cancellation policy?

We have a two business day cancellation policy. This means you need to cancel an appointment for Monday, on the Friday prior. If you do not cancel within two business days, you will be charged the full cost of your session, even if you do not attend.

If you are using insurance, and late cancel, or no show to a session, you will be charged the full amount insurance pays us for a therapy session.

  • Do you give homework assignments after sessions?

Ah, never will we do a worksheet assignment with you, or have you do weekly homework assignments. It’s just not our style, or vibe. Interestingly enough, we were all trained in behavioral models of treatment for eating disorders but we believe a worksheet and formulatized homework for therapy is similar to BMI (Body Mass Index)…. it doesn’t take into account the uniqueness of YOU!

Behavioral treatment models of therapy are important to the field of psychology, unfortunately they are not YOU-based; this is what sets us apart in the type of treatment we  provide.
